Expand your skills on the gelli plate by printing on fabric in this hands-on workshop. We'll explore the use of thrifted textile finds as unique texture tools, creating one-of-a-kind artistic pieces to take home. Along the way, we’ll experiment with the elements of design to create dynamic compositions. Whether you’re new to gelli plates or more experienced, this workshop will introduce new creative ideas in your fibre art practice. 

What you leave with: A collection of prints on fabric showcasing the techniques learned, handout with composition ideas, 6x6 gel plate (available for purchase for $20).

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the gelli plate is useful but not necessary

What is provided (for the duration of the workshop)
  • Acrylic paints
  • thrifted and textured textiles
  • fabric scissors (I will have a few available for use)
  • fabrics to print on
  • handouts
What to bring
  • Brayer, gelli plate if you have one (Gel Press or Gelli Arts) (a 6x6 plate can be purchased from the instructor for $20)
  • 4-6 acrylic paint colours including black and white,
  • fabric scissors (optional)
  • plain cotton fabrics cut to the size of your gelli plate (if possible)

TEACHER

Anne Warburton

Anne Warburton is a fibre artist who creates dynamic fibre art from repurposed materials and altering fabrics and papers using mark-making tools. Her art is inspired by the "wow" of nature's lines around us. She makes her art by sewing layers of fabrics together, then slashing, deconstructing and heat distressing to reveal not only the layers below but also a bit of herself in each piece. Shaping, stitching and embellishing to highlight the beauty within are her final steps. Anne is trained in the expressive arts therapies and is fascinated about how creativity helps us in our personal journeys.
