In this workshop, you’ll be guided through weaving a basket made from cattail leaves, bark, and other traditional basketry plants from Québec. You will learn the mould-based weaving technique along with several methods including checkerboard, layering, torch, X-stitch on bark, and the tuck and cut rim used in basket forms from around the world. This workshop offers an introduction to local plants that can be woven, simple yet diverse basketry techniques, insights on plant identification and respectful harvesting, a connection to an ancestral practice in a small group setting, and a chance to slow down, have fun, and spark your creativity.
