In this workshop, you will learn to identify the main types of fibres and damage, choose appropriate tools and yarns, and carry out repairs that are both strong and aesthetically pleasing. Step by step, you will develop the foundational skills needed to confidently work on your knits and transform holes into unique, intentional details, while learning the basic principles of visible mending, techniques to extend the life of knitted items, and a creative and mindful approach to wear and tear.

NB this workshop will be in French only. Please leave us a comment in your order if you need translation assistance.

What you leave with: A knitted square, a needle, new knowledge, and maybe a friend!

Various yarns, needles, a knitted square for practicing techniques, scissors

What to bring

Needle, scissors, and a knitted object to repair (not mandatory, but teacher can guide participants with their own project during practice time. You will otherwise be provided a knitted swatch to practice).

TEACHER

Jasmine Éthier

Jasmine Éthier currently lives in Montreal, where she also grew up. Through an eclectic artistic path where music, photography, drawing, and graphic design intersect, along with travel and meaningful dreams, a passion for textile art emerged. She then enrolled at the Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal to deepen her knowledge of textile construction. During her studies, she took part in several group exhibitions, including the Biennale du lin de Portneuf. Since 2020, she has been offering knit repair services and leading public workshops on this technique. Her work has been presented at the Salon des métiers d’art and at MTL en Arts, where she exhibited a large tapestry on Sainte-Catherine Street, aiming to use art as a way to create connections. After a nomadic period following her studies, she established her studio in the heart of Rosemont in Montreal, which she likes to call her laboratory, to continue her textile research.
