This workshop is an invitation to reconnect with our textile landscape. You will be exploring two plant-based dyeing techniques: immersion dyeing and botanical printing. Theory on fibre preparation will be presented, followed by the dyeing of fleece and a skein of pre-mordanted wool.

Please note: this is a 4-hour workshop (1:30 PM – 5:30 PM).

NB this workshop will be in French only. Please leave us a comment in your order if you need translation assistance.

What you leave with: 100g of fleece dyed in an immersion dye bath and 1 skein (100g) dyed using botanical printing OR 2 100gr skeins of yarn 1 notebook

Notebook, fleece, skeins of wool, local dye plants, pots, hot plate, and dyeing equipment.

What to bring

A bag or container that can hold wet fibers!

TEACHER

Karianne Poutré

Born in a small village in the Eastern Townships, Karianne grew up surrounded by agriculture, flowers, and all kinds of crafts. In 2015, she earned a degree in fashion design, then continued her studies in textile construction at the Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal, graduating in 2018. Through her company Fleurs Textiles, she aims to highlight the connection between agriculture and fashion. She now cultivates around fifteen varieties of dye plants and uses techniques such as natural dyeing, sewing, knitting, and weaving to create clothing and accessories inspired by the colors of the garden.
