Named the « Bearded One », the Muskox is king of the Artic! This truly practical course pushes our fibre diversity exploration as spinners.  It brings to light the muskox fibre in its whole;  making good use of the incredibly soft and rare under coat (qiviut) but also of the coarse 1 to 2 feet long hair.  This extreme polarity will come together in a final project  that includes sorting, preparing, spinning, knitting, felting and embroidery! An awesome adventure that unlocks your preconceived textile ideas, and opens up new spinning horizons!
Schedule
Day 1 AM: The « Beast » presentation (history, way of life, particularities). Learning to effectively sort the fibres in different grades, for different uses.
Day 1 PM : Appropriate merino/qiviut blend preparation and spinning; totally « woolen »! Knitting and felting a sample that will be used as embroidery support.
Day 2 Am : Exploration of different preparations and spinning techniques for the first grade qiviut.
Day 2 PM : Play time with the long muskox hair to create one of a kind embroidery threads! Embroidery on felt inspired from different sources.
