Description

Ever want to modify a knitting pattern, but didn’t know where to start? You like the colourwork from a sweater yoke, but want to knit it as a hat instead? Or maybe you love 70% of a cabled sweater design, but wish the cables were those dreamy ones from that other sweater you saw? Or you love your knitted mittens (cables, colourwork, textured stitches, whatever!), and wish you had a hat to match? Whether planning to knit a garment or accessories, the planning and skills to help make your modification a huge success is easier than you think. This hands-on class will walk through the strategies and techniques used to plan and execute a successful modification to an existing knitting pattern: problem areas to watch out for, incorporating stitches from stitch dictionaries, planning for repeat and yardage differences, and swatching for modifications. Prepare to leave the class excited and ready to modify your next knit!

What to bring

  • A notebook and pencil
  • One or two knitting patterns that you wish to modify
  • Sample of the yarn you have planned for it for swatching (don’t worry if you haven’t chosen yet!)
  • If you want to knit one item (e.g. a sweater) but want to make that one item a mix of 2 or more patterns : please bring all relevant patterns in.
