Here is the list of workshops that will be given at the retreat. Since spaces are limited, you will be able to choose your top 5 workshops in the registration form and we will do are best to get you your top 3. You will also be able to confirm with who you would like to share your room and write additional comments. To register, you need to click on one of the room options at the bottom of the page, you will then fill the form and make your payment. Please note that the retreat is not refundable unless cancelled by the festival. We are a non-profit organization and we organize two retreats per year to help fund the festival. The Workshops:

1. Knitting stories with Sylvie St-Jacques (all levels)

A workshop that blends knitting, storytelling and writing.  You knitted your favorite scarf to get you through a heartbreak. She made a shawl to warm the shoulders of a friend in mourning. These socks were completed just before you gave birth of your first son. In this workshop, I invite you to tell and listen to « stories of yarn », while integrating some basic storytelling notions.
What to bring:  Pencil, paper, one of your creations or something you received as a gift which have a great meaning for yourself.

2. English paper piecing (quilt) with Amélie Laberge (all levels)

A  2 hour workshop to discover English paper piecing;  a hand quilting method (no sewing machine needed! )
Material included: paper piece, fabric, and threads
Material provided: needles

3. English embroidery initiation with Maude Levasseur (beginner)

A 2-hour workshop to unlock the secrets of this English classic technique with contemporary patterns. A contemplative and creative art to embroider classics and modern patterns! We warn you, this technique is highly addictive:)
Material included: fabric and thread
Material provided: needle and thimble

4.  Smartphone photography: Tips and tricks to photograph your knits! with Rémy Savard (Beginner)

So you just binded of your latest textile creation and you want to share the joy on social media? Learn how to take photos using natural light, composition and style!  With this knowledge and the right apps, your photos will be stunning.  An interactive workshop, that will put you right into the action while exploring under the watchful eye of professional photographer Rémy Savard.
Material provided: accessories and material for tests
What to bring: Smartphone and some creations to photograph. Paper and pencil for taking notes.

5. Photograph your textile creations like a PRO with Rémy Savard (intermediate to advanced)

Whether you are a designer, or simply passionate about textile photography, this intermediate workshop will allow you to master composition, style and exposure, while shooting in a natural light setting. This workshop is presented in the form of demos, we will go through the different stages of the creative process (research, decision-making, the work plan, shooting, editing, post production). Shoot photos at a professional level, ready for layout of your new pattern or for sharing on social media.
Material provided: accessories and material for tests
What to bring:  a camera (that has a Manual mode (ideally) and different lenses - Hybrid/mirrorless, reflex/DSLR etc.) Some creations to photograph.  Paper and pencil for taking notes.
Pre-requisite :  Have a an interest for photography,  have a camera.

6.  Harvest plants and Eco-Print them on knitted fabric with Shani Théorêt and Amélie P. Bédard (All levels)

Discover the potential of natural dyeing with indigenous plants. We will go for a short walk and harvest plants and eco-print them on sock blanks. Join the fun with the founders of indie dye yarns Bleu Poussière and Emilia & Philomène !
Material provided: Dyeing material, baskets for harvesting, reference books and samples.
Material included : 1 sock blank (100g)

7. Cochineal an acid dye speckles on mini-skeins with Shani Théorêt and Amélie P. Bédard (All levels)

It’s a good day to dye! Discover the many shades that cochineal reveal when you play with the acidity of your dye bath and add acid dye speckles!
Material provided:  Dyeing material, reference books and samples.
Material included : 4 x 40g mini-skeins
10$ material fees extra, payable to the teacher on site.

8. Knitting Cast-on and Bind-off party !  with Camille Descoteaux (intermediate)

Fear no more casting-on and binding off! Learn multiple cast-on and bind-off techniques and how to choose which one is best for your projects. Discover the advantages and the uses of each method.You will practise many cast-on and bind-off methods, whether they are stretchy, invisible, temporary, tubular or with 3 dpn’s, from i-cord to kitchener. CO and BO will be your new best friends:)
What to bring:  scrap yarns (whichever size you prefer and matching needles, circular and dpn) and a yarn needle.

9. How to edit your own patterns with Vincent Deslandes (intermediate to advanced)

You would like to learn to edit your own knitting pattern but have no idea how to start?This workshop will give you all the right tools to publish your pattern. Satisfaction guaranteed!

What to bring: paper, crayon and a pattern you would like to publish (optional)

10.  Knitting:  transform any collar in a beautiful hoodie with Vincent Deslandes (intermediate to advanced)

In this workshop, you will learn to transform any collar into a stylish and comfortable hoodie. Whether your pattern is a cardigans, raglan or boat neckline, all combinations are possible.

What to bring: paper, crayon and a pattern you would like to adapt (optional)

11.  Start your « Sutures » shawl with designer Camille Descoteaux ( intermediate to advanced)

In this workshop, you will get all the directives needed to start your “Sutures”shawl, for an easy breezy experience. Camille will go into detail about how this pattern was created and will explain each section. What a great way to start a new project, with the designer there so you can ask all the questions you have in mind!
